Four German investors recently visited the country on a feasibility study to build what they called GAM-MEDIC International Research Centre, valued at ?50 million. Dr Robert Leitenmeier, Josef Rottaichner, Roger Bogmans and Dr Habit Dirk Wieckman are the four.

According to Dr Dirk Wieckman who led the delegation, the purpose of GAM-MEDIC International Research Centre is to create a partnership with The Gambia government to fight against malaria, breast cancer, brain cancer and hypertension.

He said that as soon as the government approves the initiative, they will kick-start their project.

For his part, Hon Bekai Camara, NAM for Wuli East, who is also one of their Gambian counterparts , said the investors made a courtesy call on Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, vice president and Dr Malick Njie, secretary of state for Health and Social Welfare, to introduce the project's aims and objectives and to further discuss other issues relating to the project.

The Wuli East NAM said that the project will be funded by the World Bank.

Hon Babanding KK Daffeh, NAM for Kiang Central, also corroborated the statement of his honourable colleague.
