Friday, October 10, 2008

The prosecution Officer,799 Lamin Badji, recently informed the court of the prosecutions' intention to close their case after the testimony of their last witness in the ongoing trial involving Lamin Sanneh, a staff of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), who is accused of assaulting one Nafie Saidy.

Morro Ceesay, the last prosecution witness and a driver and resident of Kotu, told the court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai, that on 8th August, 2008, at the sea port in Banjul between 5 and 6 pm, whilst in the company of the complainant (Nafie) and a man called Pa-Boy, he heard the complainant (Nafie) calling on her son, who was engaged in a dispute with the accused person to board the vehicle.

The prosecution witness further informed the court that a few minutes later, he saw the accused person slapping the complainant. He said he advised her to report the matter to the Banjul Police station, where both he and the complainant made statements. The said statements were tendered and marked as exhibits.

The presiding magistrate, at that juncture, adjourned the case to 15th October for the accused, Lamin Sanneh to open his defence.
