Woman under arrest for alleged maltreatment of foster child

africa » gambia » juffureh
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Unimpeachable sources have revealed to the Daily Observer that one Mariama Sarr, a Senegalese citizen residing in Juffereh, was last Wednesday, October 1st, arrested with her husband, Ebrima Sarr, for maltreating their adopted daughter. They were subsequently detained at the Barra Police Station.

According to our sources, Mariama Sarr allegedly cut her adopted daughter's genital parts using a hot knife, as punishment for her 'disobeying commands'. Sources further indicated that the 7 year-old adopted girl (name withheld) could not survive the pains inflicted on her through such a crude punishment, and was reported to have died on Monday, September 29, 2008. She was said to have been secretly buried that same day, in Juffereh.

"Rumors surrounding the young girl's death circulated all over, and the police were eventually informed, which later resulted to the arrest and detention of Mariama Sarr and her husband, Ebrima Sarr, the following Wednesday, October 1st, 2008," sources told the Daily Observer.

Police spokesperson, ASP Sulayman Secka, confirmed the story. According to him, the Senegalese woman (Mariama Sarr) is currently being detained at the Banjul Police Station, where she is helping the police in their investigations.
