Edrisa M'Bai, principal magistrate of the Banjul Magistrates Court has sentenced one Sanna Saidy to a mandatory ten-year imprisonment term and a fine of D1,000,000, in default to serve a further 3 months in prison.

Magistrate M'Bai delivered this judgement on Thursday, whilst presiding over drug trafficking cases including one concerning Dawda Manneh, the former NAM for Nianija Constituency, in the Central River Region.

Before delivering the sentence, Magistrate M'Bai went through the testimonies and evidences of both the prosecution and the defence.

According to him, the prosecution had called in five witnesses and had proved their case beyond all reasonable doubts.

According to the particulars of offence, on or about the 21st day of April 2008, at Barra, Niumi District, North Bank Region, the accused Sanna Saidy was arrested by the National Drug Enforcement Agents with 2kg and 540g of cannabis sativa in his possession.

Mamud Jallow represented the NDEA in the trial.
