Monday, October 27, 2008

The Brufut Marathon Run Association (BMRA), last weekend embarked on a massive cleansing exercise as part of activities marking the countdown of the annual marathon race organised by BMRA.

Joined by Taf Holding Company and Friends of The Gambia UK, the marathon run association extensively cleaned the Brufut Health Centre.

Sports during the cleansing exercise, Ms Fatoumata Balajo, marketing officer of The Brufut Marathon Run Association (BMRA), commended all the groups and Brikama Area Council for their active participation in the exercise.

She revealed that her association has taken up the challenge this year to run for a "clean nation", noting that the exercise is part of the activities that will culminate into the actual run slated for December 6, 2008, at the Brufut Lower Basic School ground.

Ms Balajo concluded by soliciting support from all and sundry in order to make this year's run a success. She said that any fund realised from the run will be ploughed back to the community, more specifically in the areas of education and health.

Mrs Isatou Dampha the nurse in charge of the clinic spoke of the benefits of a clean environment to health. She urged the stakeholders to carry on cleaning the environments since that will prevent certain illness from affecting the society.

Mrs Marie Joof and Mr Abass Manneh of the health centre and the Village Development Committee respectively, thank BMRA for a job well done and told the villagers to always get involved in cleaning exercises of such nature.

Mr Lamin Conte, the assistant cleansing manager at the Brikama Area Council, expressed his appreciation to the organisers [BMRA] and assured them of his council's full support at all times.
