Monday, October 27, 2008

Sambou Badjie, a trial prisoner, was on Tuesday, 21st October, 2008, arraigned before Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates Court.

He was charged with unlawful escape from police custody at the Bundung Police Station contrary to Section 108 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Vol. 3.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jahateh, told the court that following the escape on September 11, the police carried out some investigations and searches that led to Badjie's arrest.

Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara convicted and sentenced the accused to a 1-year imprisonment term without the option of a fine. She said this would serve as deterrent to others.
