In support of our gallant Scorpions

Africa » Gambia
Monday, October 06, 2008

Editor,
Please, allow me to take some space on your highly respected newspaper to say good luck to our Gallant Scorpions. I am here in London but my mind, soul and heart are with all Gambians back home, preparing for The Gambia - Senegal derby.

I attended the last encounter which was not easy for both supporters and players who travelled to Dakar on that weekend. I would like to shed light on what Gambians should expect on 11th October 2008. Both players and fans need to be aware that the Senegalese will do anything it takes to win the derby. They will provoke you, insult you, and even take seats allocated to Gambian fans without hesitating. Please don't mind them, stay focused and make sure you're not intimidated; we must take pride in the way we behave, even if some Senegalese supporters do not wish to.

Remember that all Gambians abroad will be watching this game live on Senegalese TV. I, personally, with my wife and other Gambians also here in Watford, UK, have taken a day off from work to watch this game. We're behind the SCORPIONS 101%, and are looking forward to seeing our gallant team break the marriage between the two nations. Let's march shoulder-to-shoulder to the stadium and win our way to South Africa 2010. Go Gambia, Go the Scorpions.......!
