Remembrance Day observed

Remembrance Day was last Sunday, and it was celebrated in The Gambia and all across the Commonwealth countries. 

The Ceremony  which was  held  in remembrance of millions who died in the First World War, was marked by a two-minute silence. The Ceremony  was  observed at the July 22nd Square in Banjul where the vice-president, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, top officials, religious leaders, service men and a cross section of the public gathered to commemorate the event.

The event was celebrated by a match parade of the ex-servicemen, boy scouts, girl guides, red cross volunteers and guard of honour marched in procession. 
The laying of wreaths was done successively by  H.E Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy; Chairman of Gambia Legion; Chief of Defence Staff,  Major General Lang Tombong Tamba;   the Inspector General of the Police, Ensa Badjie.

Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, the Lord Mayor of Banjul, British High Commissioner, who laid it on behalf of the Commonwealth.

The tradition was also followed by the Dean of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, Mr Carlos Salsamendi,the Cuban Ambassador to The Gambia,  laid it on behalf of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps and the Red Cross Society . After the ceremony the vice president met Ex-servicemen.
