Police 'attacker' remanded

One Ismail Ngum was on Friday arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda of the Kanifing Magistrates Court charged with assault.  

According to the particulars of the offense, the accused on 29th October 2008, willfully and unlawfully assaulted one police officer, Kalilou Sanyang, in Serrekunda by hitting him with a cutlass on his arm.  He was also charged with arming himself with a cutlass in public without due authorization.

When the charge sheet was read to him in Wollof, he pleaded not guilty.

In her ruling, Senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda ordered that the accused be kept in custody. The case was adjourned to 11th November 2008.
