The Senegalese delegation, led by Madame Marie Jose Varre, President of de la commission de L'education de las jeunesse, des sports et de louise de Senate, that is of the select committee on education, youth and sport, were at the National Assembly in Banjul to familiarize themselves with The Gambia's National Assembly select committee on Education, Youths and Sports, among others. The visit of the Senegalese delegation is also aimed at exploring the possibility of establishing a joint commission between the National Assembly of The Gambia and Senegal.

In her opening remarks, Hon Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay welcomed the visiting delegation, calling on the deputies of the two Assemblies to endeavor in strengthening the cordial relationship and cooperation between the two countries.

Speaker Jahumpa Ceesay hailed the efforts of Presidents Jammeh and Abdoulaye Wade in the empowerment of women, as well as for promoting peace and unity in Africa and the whole world at large. She urged the deputies to work together in the establishment of a joint commission on education, youths and sports, health etc, "for the promotion of regional integration among others." FJC concluded by asking the delegation to extend her warmest greetings to the Senegalese government.

Madame Marie Jose Varre, the head of the Senegalese delegation, described the two countries as one, urging the people to unite and work together.

She also commended the two presidents "for being true Pan-Africanists, and for their effort in promoting regional integration.

Momodu LK Sanneh, the minority leader of The Gambia's National Assembly, added his voice with an expression of delight in Gambia-Senegal relationship. He said the promotion of unity, peace, regional integration, and the establishment of a joint commission on Education, health, youths and sports, were a worthwhile mission to be followed.

The minority leader also thanked the Senegalese delegation for their efforts and expressed hope that their plans would soon be implemented.

Other speakers included Hon Sulayman Joof, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West, who also doubles as the Chairperson of the National Assembly select committee on Education; Hon Borry Colley, NAM for Foni Jarrol, who is also vice chairperson of the National Assembly select committee on Education; and Madame Eririelle Domenic Magre Moamar Ceesay and Haddy Bah, all from the Senegalese Senate, who all expressed similar sentiments.
