YOUNG OBSERVER: Students' mode of dressing

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, November 04, 2008

Students' mode of dressing should be simple and neat. The way an individual dresses tells a lot about him or her. As students, our mode of dressing should be decent, simple and neat. That is why uniforms are introduced in schools. Once students are in uniform, it will be very difficult to identify the category of their family background. This is because everyone dresses in the same style and colour.

The modern way of dressing has totally changed. The students' mode of dressing even when going to school has also changed and it doesn't tell well about them in our communities. Most students used to dress up smartly in their school uniforms.  But now students' mode of dressing is very bad due to lack of discipline.

All school uniforms especially for girls are expected to reach below the knees. Students' mode of dressing can also be associated to lack of good parental care especially when they are going to school. Children and young people might not know what is good for them at all times or what is wrong or right but the parents should take it upon themselves to advice and take good care of their children.

Students' mode of dressing should be attractive both in and outside the school. In countries like Senegal where students don't wear school uniforms, there is always greater competition among them in terms of dress codes. Students from rich families whose dresses are always very expensive and attractive, makes learning difficult for their colleagues as they too will also like to wear the same clothes like their colleagues.

Therefore, uniforms are very important and we should not abuse them, instead we should respect them the aforementioned complications.
