Wednesday, February 20, 2008

The Tambi Wetland Women Association, comprising of oyster women collectors in Ebo Town, New Jeshwang and Tallinding, last Wednesday received an amount of D20,000 from ICAM, at a presentation ceremony held at the compound of  New Jeshwang Alkalo.

Speaking at the  ceremony, Hon. Haddy Nyang Jagne, National Assembly Member for Jeshwang Constituency, said that the purpose of donating money is to support the women engaged in the mangrove plantation and oyester collection.

Modou Lamin Badjie, councillor for Ebo Town/New Jeshwang ward, advised the women to utilise the money wisely as it is meant to support them in their activities. He  advised them to create a funding initiative to boost the  association's income.

Councillor Badjie then described the initiative as a step towards poverty reduction  and thanked President Jammeh for his concern towards the development of Gambian women.

For her part, Haddy Jatta, President of the Tambi Wetland Women's group, Ebo Town branch, thanked the donors for their support and assured them of their desire to meet their goals.. She revealed that some of their group members were sent to Senegal last year to do some studies on oyester farming.
