More money for Little Jainaba

africa » gambia
Wednesday, February 27, 2008
More cash donations continue to flow into the Daily Observer for little Jainaba Jallow who is currently receiving treatment in Dakar, Senegal, after a protracting debilitating illness.

A Gambian gentleman based in the United States, who prefers to remain anonymous, chipped in D20,000. The sum was presented to the managing director of the Observer Company, Dida Halake, by Abdou Jallow, the father of the donor.

Mr Jallow, a resident of Tallinding Medina, walked into Observer offices yesterday. He said his son in USA came to know about the story through the Daily Observer website.

"Soon after knowing about the situation, my son called to sent D20,000 as his contribution towards the treatment and welfare of Jainaba Jallow," he told the Daily Observer.

Later on. another Gambian resident in the USA, Ms Sirreh Faal, sent to the Daily Observer D10,000 for little Jainaba. "I was touched when I read the story yesterday in the Daily Observer online. I hope that this small sum will help Jainaba," Ms Faal said.

Another donation came from Dr Patrick Chang, the Taiwanese ambassador to Banjul, who provided D10,000. Dr Chang had earlier made a similar humanitarian donation this month when he distributed more than  D100,000 among the bereaved families of the Serrekunding tragic road accident.

An overwhelmed Mr Halake said that a total of D131,500 has been put into Jainaba's new bank account opened yesterday with Ecobank.

"Members of the public who have donated should feel free to walk into our offices at any time to check their own name against the list of donors and verify the total in Jainaba's account book," he said adding "please give all donations to Andrew Dacosta and receive a receipt".

Stop Press: As we were going to press, TK Motors rang the Daily Observer to give D10,000 as its contribution towards the funds for little Jainaba, bringing the total to date to D141,500.
