UNDP gets 49% apology

africa » gambia
Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Following our story on Monday about a road been closed by vehicles carrying UNDP logo, we received a letter from the UNDP's Mrs Sainabou Jallow-Gaye. Below is the full text of the letter.

"Reference is made to the above article published on your yesterday's paper, and we would like to bring to your attention that the vehicle concerned is not a UNDP vehicle but a National Environment Agency vehicle registration No NE16. This vehicle was donated to the National Environment Agency by the UNDP.

In this regard, we will appreciate it if your institution can make a formal apology for the error made, and the apology published on the front page of your paper for more visibility.

We thank you and count on your usual cooperation".

Sainabou Jallow-Gaye

Communication and Resource Mobilization Analyst

Editor's Note:

Sainabou, the mistake arose quite simply out of the fact that the UNDP logo was prominently displayed on the offending vehicles. There was no NEA logo anywhere on the vehicle.

We have the photos and the logos say UNDP. We of course agree that UNDP have been tarnished by something that they had
nothing to do with. So, we give UNDP a 49% apology since they are our friends.  Only 49% because it is UNDP's job to ensure that only UNDP vehicles carry UNDP logo.

I hope we remain friends!
