africa » gambia
Friday, February 29, 2008
As the dust surrounding the January 24th Local Government Elections celebrations begins to settle, the National Youth Council on behalf of the Department of State for Youths and Sports, under the able leadership of Hon Mass Axi Gaye and the young people of The Gambia, wish to congratulate the mayors of Banjul and Kanifing Municipalities, Chairpersons of the Area Councils and Governors in all Regions across the country, for nominating youth representatives to their councils.

"For the first time in history, youth representatives were selected with in the structures of The Gambia National Youth Council in the municipalities of Banjul and Kanifing and all the regions, to represent the wishes and concerns of young people. This is a remarkable gesture", a press release from the NYC stated.

"We wish to congratulate them for such a move. Indeed it is a step in the right direction. It shows that they respect young people and do not underrate what young people can offer. They have shown great trust in young people", the release further stated.

"We wish to assure them that we will never be found wanting when national duty calls. Moreover, we wish to use this opportunity to congratulate all mayors, chairpersons and councillors who were elected and wish them a successful term of office. We hope to continue collaborating as usual so that together we can create a brighter future for The Gambia and her people", the release concludes.
