Theft at GRA

africa » gambia
Monday, March 03, 2008
Mr Patrick Gomez, a staff of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and a resident of Lamin Village in Kombo North, Western Region, has been arrested by the personnel from the Gambia Police Force (GPF), alongside his accomplice, Kawsu Bojang of the same village, for allegedly stealing 11 books of Income Tax clearance disk, the Daily Observer can reveal.

Confirming the story to the Daily Observer, the public relations officer (PRO) of GPF, Inspector Sulayman Secka said the arrest came after the revenue authority lodged a complaint about the disappearance of some Income Tax books, and information about some people issuing clearance certificates for vehicles and other valuables at the Customs Department. He said this act causes losses in revenue to the state.

Inspector Secka added that the police acted on the complaint, leading to the arrest of the duo.

Further commenting on the theft, the police PRO noted that Mr Gomez stole the books and gave them to Kawsu Bojang, noting that they have been charged accordingly and will appear before a competent court.
