The situation in Zimbabwe

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, April 01, 2008

Editor,

I am concerned about the situation unfolding in Zimbabwe. Despite the endless campaign of denigration against the incumbent president, Robert Mugabe, he remains steadfast. Unlike other dictatorial governments that enjoy 100% backings of the West, Mugabe has called for election, just as he has always been doing, in line with the Zimbabwean constitution.

And now, the Western media, led by Gordon Brown's BBC, is doing all it can to wreck Zimbabwe apart. Already they are making unfounded claims that certainly will not auger well for ordinary Zimbabweans. Mugabe and his supporters are surely not going to sit and watch Morgan and his rogue group of supporters disturb the peace in their country.

I have the feeling, however, that they want to follow the footsteps of the Kenyan opposition. But it won't work.

I therefore call on the AU and the UN to prevail on Britain and its BBC mouthpiece to stop meddling in the affairs of this African country.

Mugabe will ever remain the hero he is to us, the majority of Africans, regardless of the outcome of this election result. After all, the man is incomparable to the peace as he goes to the pool regularly, unlike the Monarch that clings onto an illusory concept of divine ownership of Britain. As for Uncle Sam, well, they'd better not say anything, because Mugabe's re-election bids always bear far greater credibility than George Bush's fraudulent elections.
