GFA have mercy

Thursday, April 10, 2008
Editor,

I am a keen follower of development involving the game of football, and I am quite happy about the trend at which thinks are going. The attention the game gets from the government of the Gambia is especially encouraging. The department of youth and sport in the Gambia has a lot of skilled and dedicated personnel, who make me feel all the more upbeat the prospect of the game in the Gambia.

However, we one we ought to look into especially, is discipline, which is in fact dominates current debate. It is true the player in question, Ken Jammeh, is such a fantastic defender, but we can not give any room for excuse, because the younger ones who are coming are supposed to look onto the senior ones. So if this is the trend we are going to be keeping, I am afraid, all the effort of the key players in the development off the Game will go in vain.

I am therefore taking this opportunity to urge the authority to deal with the issue at hand with care, as it is a delicate situation. In as much as we want to discipline an offender, we must be careful not to upset the system by destroying the carrier of the young man, as has been mentioned on yesterday's edition of the daily observers editorial.

My appeal goes to the GFA desciplinary committee which came up with the decision of indefinit suspension. Please, let us give it a rethink.

I nhope that my humble concern will be given due consideration. Thank you in advance.

Lamin Kujabi

Editor's note:

I think I am going to take control of this page away from my rebellious editors and close this matter. Like I said yesterday, I think GFA was, if anything too lenient because slapping a referee is too serious a matter. It is just like slapping a teacher or slapping your uncle! We cannot allow such behaviour or we will end up with anarchy!

Editor-in-Chief!
