The Global Vote A voice for the world's kids

Africa » Gambia
Friday, April 18, 2008
Humanity is deluged with a hotchpotch of hitches, but it always has a way out of the haggard limitations that come with these problems.

The diverse nature of our world happens to have made it a chance for others to make a living by hanging on the neck of others, making life impossible for them. Always, a particular section of the world community is on the spotlight; Women and children are the most affected group.

There have been numerous interventions on behalf of these people. The UN is always at the forefront.

The United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (The Child Convention) consists of 54 articles. But basic among them is that all children have the same rights and are of equal worth. Unfortunately, however, despite all these laws, millions of children around the world continue to experience untold suffering, mostly in the hands of people that are supposed to guard them.

Because of the irony of the situation, it turns out to be somewhat difficult to detect abuses. But thank God, some people endeavour to always champion the course of these ill-fated children. These people dedicate their entire lives to these courses. Yet the world tends to forget about these people themselves. But, also, there are always others that endeavour to ensure that these people are not forgotten. One such organization does these through what its calls, the Global Vote.

It is the World's Children's Prize for the Right of the Child (WCPRC). Children all over the world vote for a select group of nominees, who are awarded prizes for their effort in promoting the course of children, the world over. There are about 33,000 Global Friends schools, with 15 million pupils in 86 countries.

This number is said to be growing rapidly. The process had been scheduled  to take place from 14 january to 14 April, 2008. In The Gambia, the Child protection Alliance (CPA) has been in charge of coordinating the voting process for the world Children's Prize for the Right of the Child election in member schools across the country. The voting process in the Gambia began on Thursday, 3rd April and ended on last Friday 11 April, 2008.
