Thank you Mr President

Wednesday, April 23, 2008
Editor,

Please, allow me space in your widely read newspaper to contribute towards an earlier clarion call by the Gambian leader, President Jammeh, who champions the cause of back-to-the-land. In most developing countries, Agriculture is the backbone of their economy.

Unfortunately, the sector is dormant as it has been abandoned by the most active labour force, the youth. The youth have a very important role to play towards this sector, if the rise in the cost of food price around the world is to be curbed. Take an example from our country, the Gambia, where we have abundant area of land, sunshine, and rainfall, which can support the development of Agricultural activities. But the youth seemingly fail to take note of this advantage.

Thanks to the visionary and forward looking Mr President, for being in the forefront in championing the course of the back to the land policy, the Gambia will soon be food sufficient.
