We need the league title - Says Samger's Waterman

africa » gambia » serrekunda east
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
Samger's Ousman Jassey, commonly known as Waterman, has told Observer Sports that his side have what it takes to win the Division One League title.

Samger made a swift return to the First Division League last season and their primary objective then, according to Waterman, was to maintain their position in the top flight.

However, having had a promising run of form that sees them remain in the top spot since the start of season, the Serrekunda East side now have a change of plan - to vie for title - and the crafted winger believes they can go all the way and achieve this dream if they can keep up the good run of form.

Speaking to Observer Sports shortly after Samger's 1-1 draw against Steve Biko on Sunday, Waterman said: "We can win the title if we can carry our current form to the second round. I know it will not come easily but we have to fight for it because we need the league title.

"We may be too immature compared to other big guns, but the cohesion among the players is the team's strength."

Samger still have a game-in-hand against Wallidan on Saturday, and even a defeat for the former in that game would not stop them from finishing the first round on top and, with this, Waternman believe, it should be no surprise that Samger are this year's surprise package.

"It is no surprise that we are finishing the first round on top because we have had a good preparation and we are pleased that the good preparation is translating into reality," he said.

Commenting on Sunday's draw against Steve Biko, Waterman said: "I am disappointed that we did not take the whole three points. We had several scoring chances but it's a pity that we did not take on our chances."
