Niamina West chief fired in six days

africa » gambia » central river region
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
The newly appointed chief of Niamina West has had his services terminated yesterday, barely six days after his appointment, unimpeachable sources told the Daily Observer.

Ngai Sama Dampha was officially removed on May 12.

A native of Pinyai Village in Central River Region, Dampha had replaced Alhaji Kekuta Jawo, who was also fired a about a week ago.
Our sources revealed that Mr Dampha has been replaced by Yorro Gidda Bah, a native of Maali Kunda Village.

Ganyie Touray, the governor of CRR, confirmed the story, but declined to comment on the reason for the short-lived appointment of Mr Dampha.

This latest development follows the sacking of a number of chiefs, including Haruna Sabally of Jarra Central, Moro Jawla of Sami, Sambujang Jagne of Farafenni and Kabiro Kanteh of Central Baddibu.
