Major criminal cases resume today

africa » gambia » banjul
Friday, May 16, 2008
Two major criminal cases involving a former senior government official, two senior security officers and an Italian national, will this morning resume at the Banjul Magistrates Court.

Senior magistrate Kayode Olajubutu will presided over the criminal trial of William John Joof, the former Gambian ambassador to France, in which case witnesses are expected to proceed with the submission of their evidence.

The magistrate will also preside over a theft case involving Supt Manlafi Sanyang and co-accused, Dominico Fedeli and Bakary Camara.

During the last sitting, the prosecution officer ASP Touray, told the court that he had closed his case. Defence counsel Sheriff Tambedou and Lamin Camara had already filed a no-case-to-answer submission, but was overruled by the senior magistrate.

Lawyer Camara, who is the counsel for Bakary Camara and Manlafi Sanyang, informed the court that he would not enter into any defence as far as his clients were concerned, but instead he said he would make an application to the court on the points law.
