Wednesday, May 21, 2008
The benevolent Gambian leader, Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, has again came to the rescue of Gambian football.  The fanatical football follower has promised to provide to the new Scorpions coach, Belgian Paul Put, an accommodation as well as an official vehicle as his personal contribution, Major-General Lang Tombong Tamba, first vice-president of The Gambia Football Association said at the Belgian's unveiling ceremony yesterday

"In the contract document, Africell is to pay the coach's salary, while The Gambia Football Association was to shoulder his accommodation and transport cost in the face of a severe financial constraints."

"However, I am happy to inform you that the President and the Commander-In-Chief, Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, who has always been their for Gambian sports, has promised to provide the coach an accommodation and an official vehicle as his personal contribution," revealed the GFA No 2 who doubles as Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces.

"On behalf of The Gambia Football Association and the entire Gambian populace, I wish to thank the President for his incessant support to the development of Gambian sports, particularly football," he added.

President Jammeh's latest magnanimity came barely a month when he allocated plots of land to the former Under 17 players as reward for their heroic effort in bringing The Gambia her first footballing title at continental level three years ago.
