Wallidan cut the gap on leaders

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

The dethroned league champions, Wallidan, have closed in fellow contenders, Real de Banjul and Samger, after an emphatic 3-1 win against Armed Forces in the Division One week twelve fixture, on Sunday. Goals from George Cole, Mohammed Lamin Sillah and Ebrima Sonko gave the Blue Boys a 3-0 lead in the first half, before Mbye Corr pulled a consolation for the Soldiers with a header in the 50th minute.

The victory ensured Wallidan's season doubles over Armed Forces following a 1-0 first-round win.  Wallidan now trail the leaders by one point as they lie on third spot with 20 points.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Steve Biko played a tooth-and-nail goalless draw with Sea View at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium. The result saw Steve Biko move up from seventh to sixth position on the table, while Sea View remains at the drop zone with only eleven points.
