Another batch of 25 Gambian students are getting set to leave for Taiwan, later this year, to undertake a programme in civil engineering.

According to reports reaching the Daily Observer, the third batch would be put on scholarship provided by the government of Taiwan, under the framework of bilateral cooperation between Banjul and Taipei.

The civil engineering programme comes on the heels of the completion of a four-year long programme on petro-chemical engineering that enrolled 25 young Gambian students, who were flown to the Asian-Pacific island state, four years ago. Their solid academic performance prepared the ground for more Gambian students to benefit from overseas education. This culminated in the departure of another 25 Gambians (currently in Taiwan) to undertake .

As the petro-chemical graduates prepapre to return to Banjul with their hard-earned degrees on Sunday, June 22, the latest batch of civil engineering students are expected to depart  Banjul in early July.

For the past few years, the relations between Taiwan and The Gambia have flourished to cover comprehensive areas of cooperation, including education, health, agriculture and infrastructure.
