Wallidan move closer to the crown

africa » gambia » serrekunda east
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Wallidan beat struggling Interior 3-1 last evening to take another huge step in grasping their first league title since 2004-2005 season. The Blue Boys came from behind to thrash the bottom-of-the-league-side and move three points clear on standings with three league fixtures  remaining.

Skipper Assan Mbye fired Interior ahead after converting a spot kick in the 18th minute. Alagie Janneh put Wallidan on level terms in the 31st minute before George Cole made it 2-1 in the 47th minute. Substitute Isaha Dem's second-half goal sealed the tie at 3-1 as Wallidan extended their lead on the standing with 35 points - three points away from fellow contenders Hawks and Samger who are separated by goal difference at the second position.

In another Week Nineteen fixture played yesterday,  Real de Banjul and Sait Matty-Africell fought a tooth-and-nail goalless draw at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium. The result further dampens Real de Banjul's hope of defending the coveted crown. The defending champions currently lie at fourth position on 27 points.
