Inspectors: Most important cadre - Says IGP Badjie

Thursday, June 26, 2008
Ensa Badjie, the newly appointed Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), has described the police inspectors as the most important cadre in the structure of the police force.

IGP Badjie made this statement on Monday afternoon, at the end of a four-week inspectors' development course at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. He congratulated the 40 police inspectors for successfully completing the course.

According to IGP Badjie, the inspectors represent the link between senior and junior officers, and this is the reason why they were chosen as the first target group to benefit from the course, which aims at enhancing the human resource capacity of the GPF.

He noted that the course was formulated and organised to equip the police inspectors with the essential skills and knowledge, to enable them to perform their various roles and responsibilities effectively, as supervisors and middle level managers. He advised them not to underestimate their roles and responsibilities as station officers, unit heads and supervisors, amongst others.

IGP Badjie then challenged the inspectors to perform their duties as expected, adding that the GPF will endeavour to organise a similar training programme for its officers and staff, in order to improve its human resource base.

For his part, Mamour Jobe, the commissioner of the Police Training School in Yundum, said the development course entails 49 topics which were facilitated by police instructors and lecturers.

He described the course as effective and expressed hope that the participants will utilise the knowledge acquired.

FRI Jammeh, the adviser of the GPF, expressed similar sentiments.

The 40 police inspectors were drawn from all the regions of the country and were presented with certificates at the end of the course.
