Kawsu Ceesay appeal deferred

africa » gambia » banjul
Friday, June 27, 2008
Justice MM Yamoa of the Criminal Division of the High Court, yesterday, adjourned the appeal suit filed by Mr Kawsu Ceesay, the former chief electoral officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to June 21, for continuation.

The judge's decision followed both the defence and state counsel's request to be served with the records of the case file from the Kanifing Magistrates Court. Once the file is released, the trial will witness an address from the defence and a reply from the state counsel.

Mr Ceesay is appealing against his conviction and sentence by the Kanifing Magistrates Court, on charges of theft and fraud, which was filed against him by the state.

Lawyer Musa Bachilly, represented the appellant, while Merley Wood stood in for the state.
