Proceedings in the trial involving concealment of treason by Hamadi Sowe, resumed yesterday, at the Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court, presided over by Justice Yamoa, with detective Malamin Ceesay of the Serious Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force giving evidence.

The police detective told the court that the accused, Hamadi Sowe, appeared before a panel of investigators on the March 21st foiled coup plot, at the NIA Headquarters, Banjul.

The accused, he said, narrated his version of the coup plot after which one Sergeant Sainey Ndure was assigned to obtain a cautionary statement from him in the presence of an independent witness, Babou Loum, who resides in Barra, North Bank Region (NBR).

According to the police detective,  Sainey Ndure is now deployed to Darfur, Sudan, on a peace keeping mission and that he cannot tell when he would return.

At the court, the witness identified the cautionary and voluntary statements obtained from the accused.

State counsel AS Umar applied to tender the documents, but the defense counsel Neneh Cham-Chongan objected to it, arguing that the documents were not written by her client, the accused, Hamadi Sowe.

However, the presiding judge, Justice Yamoa, granted the application and admitted the cautionary statement. However, the judge rejected the voluntary statement and urged for a conduct of voire dire to determine the voluntariness of the statement.

The case was later adjourned to June 9 for continuation of the proceedings
