Thursday, July 10, 2008
As part of activities marking the 14th edition of the 2008 Brufut Marathon Run, the Brufut Marathon Committee in collaboration with Lucky Sisters, a Brufut-based girls club, embarked on a cleansing exercise of the Brufut community market and its environs on Sunday 6th July at 9am.

The set-setal,  as it is locally called, was well received and appreciated by the market women and the elders of the village. They expressed gratitude with the BMRA for undertaking an excellent work.

Speaking at the end of the cleansing exercise, Ba Jabbi, chairman of the association informed the gathering that the exercise was held to kick-start this year's marathon run which is slated for December 6th, 2008.

He pointed out that the theme of the 2008 Marathon is 'Race For Operation Clean The Nation'.

The association, according to him, hopes to reawaken peoples' interest in the excellent initiative of environmental cleanliness as shown by the leadership of this country.

He noted that the set-setal exercise will be a continuous affair and called on all youth organisations and stakeholders to come forward and support the BMRA in this endeavour.

Mr Yankuba Sano, a representative of the alkalo of Brufut, Alhagi Yunusa Sano, commended the association for once again coming out with an excellent social program geared towards national development adding that "a healthy environment saves lives".

Other speakers included Mariama Saine and Pa Touray, executive members of the association, who gave a brief history of the achievements made by the association in terms of community sensitization on issues affecting the community since its inception in 1994.

The exercise ended at 1400hrs and the next one will take place on July 20th 2008 in Brufut.
