WR Red Cross branch commences annual Youth Forum

africa » gambia » western region
Thursday, July 17, 2008
The Western Region Red Cross branch last Monday began its annual Youth Forum for its volunteers across the region to capacitate them with the Red Cross ideals and the principles of Redcross movement.

The forum is funded by the  Social Security and Housing Finance Co-operation (SSHFC) and the Western Region Red Cross branch as well as personal contributions from the volunteers fund.

At least two hundred and twenty volunteers from the regional  Red Cross links are currently participating in the ten-day long forum to foster mutual understanding between the Red Cross volunteers at Sanyang Lower Basic School, Kombo South.

Ismaila Gibba, Western Region Red Cross area youth representative said, the forum would acquaint the volunteers with the correct information on the principles and movements of the Red Cross for dissemination at the grassroots level. He noted that the topics of the forum would be centred on the basic First Aid principles, Intensive First Aid and Leadership Management Skills, among other.

He then urged the volunteers to demonstrate a sense of discipline during the ten days forum and advised them to distance from activities that might give bad reputation to the forum. He then thanked SSHFC and the Western region Red Cross branch for the giant step in funding the forum.
