Bakau sports committee impeached

africa » gambia » bakau
Friday, July 18, 2008
Bakau nawettan teams have finally removed their sports committee who were two years into their three-year term. At a crisis meeting convened by the KMC Divisional Sports Committee yesterday, seventeen of the twenty Bakau clubs ushered in an interim committee that will steer the affairs of football in the town for the next one year, before a proper congress is held.

The previous three-man committee, which was headed by Bakary Paco Dampha, was forced to step down after what the club representatives described as its total failure to deliver in the interest of Bakau people.

Mr Abdoulie Hadda Bangura was unanimously elected as the president of the interim committee, which also has Sulayman Junko Drammeh and Bakary B Darboe as first and second vice-presidents respectively.

Other members of the committee include Baboucarr Faye (secretary general), Bakary Darboe (assistant secretary general), Dawda Barrow (treasurer), Ebrima Drammeh (assistant treasurer), Nanama Keita (public relations officer), Dawda Ceesay (sports development officer), Pa Nyaw Ceesay (assistant sports development officer), and Major Seckan (security coordinator).

The new president, Hadda Bangura, and his team will face an uphill task in improving the standards of Bakau football, which has been falling gradually due to the lack of improved facilities among other constraints.

Shortly after his election into office, Mr Bangura commended Bakau teams for the trust and confidence bestowed on him, and promised to work hand-in-glove with the teams for the development of Bakau football.

According to Mr Bangura, his first plan of action will be to rehabilitate the dilapidated Bakau Mini-stadium as well as improve the facilities within the town's only stadium.
