D1M for President's Treatment Programme

Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Bank PHB, formerly the International Bank for Commerce, on Friday, presented a cheque for D1 million to the vice-president, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, for the President's Treatment Programme.

The donation, according to the bank officials, was meant to support President Jammeh's efforts to serve humanity.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Office of the vice-president, Ahmed Koro, the managing director of Bank PHB, said the donation was part of their corporate responsibility of giving back to the people.

According to Mr Koro, his bank is not only interested in making profit, but is also committed to championing the development cause of the country.  "We are ready for partnership with the government in its development agenda," he said.

Receiving the cheque, Vice-President Njie-Saidy thanked the bank for the donation, saying that it was a manifestation of its commitment to help the government in transforming the health sector to the pride of all Gambians. Vice-President Njie-Saidy said health is key in development and called on other institutions to emulate the Bank PHB.

Dr Malick Njie, the secretary of state for Health and Social Welfare, thanked the bank for their support to Dr Jammeh's treatment programme. He also thanked President Jammeh for his continuous efforts to restore the sick back to health.

Dr Tamsir Mbowe, the director general of the President's Treatment Programme and director of Health and Medical Services, lauded the gesture and assured the bank's officials that the donation will be put to good use.
