Banda clinch Bakau Super Cup title

Monday, August 18, 2008

Bakau Knock-out champions, FC Banda, thrashed the league winners, Jazz, 4-0 on Saturday, to land the Super Cup title. Almamy Joof was Banda's goal hero, having scored all four goals in a well-attended final that also marked the start of the new nawettan season in Bakau.

Banda opened the scoring as early as the very first minute when striker Joof capitalised on Jazz's weak defence to shake the net. Banda maintained the lone goal scoreline throughout the first half.

In the second interval, Jazz fans were forced to leave the stadium earlier than expected when forward Joof scored three times to seal the tie at 4-0.

Meanwhile, the Bakau nawettan proper started yesterday, with Vidar FC beating Mamakoto 1-0 in their Group A opener. Ebrima Manneh's first-half goal which emanated from a penalty was enough to fetch the whole three points for Vidar.

Elsewhere, Daru Gifts lifted the Brikama Super Cup after beating Berewuleng 5-4 in a post-match spot kick after a 1-1 full time scoreline.

Daru's Nfamara Sanneh netted in the 46th minute goal only for Berewuleng's impressive Abdoulie Fofana to equalise six minutes later. As champions, Daru went home with a trophy and a cash prize of D3,000.00, while Berewuleng consoled themselves with D2,000.00.
