Senegal to recall Niang and Diawara for Gambia

africa » gambia
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Senegalese head coach Lamine Ndiaye will call-up Mamadou Niang and Souleymane Diawara for their crucial World Cup and Nations Cup qualifier tie against Gambia.

Coach Ndiaye has earlier said that Niang, who finished second-highest scorer in France last season, can only be selected after he writes a letter to the federation ending his self-imposed exile.

However, it has appears that the under-pressure is ready to eat humble pie after the Marseille star's importance to the side was underlined last weekend when the Teranga Lions were condemned to a 3-2 defeat by Algeria in the penultimate Group 6 qualifier.

Walfadjri Sports reported that coach Lamine Ndiaye is currently in France to convince the Niang and  Girondins de Bordeaux defender Souleymane Diawara to turn up for October 11 fixture in Dakar.

Group Six table remains wide open for any of the sides except Liberia to claim the group's automatic ticket to the next stage of the qualifiers, though the Senegalese football fans are least pleased with present position of their much over-rated side.
