Hon Dawda Manneh, the National Assembly member for Nianija Constituency and Demba Baldeh, an ex-soldier hired as a security personnel at the Central Bank of The Gambia, were on Saturday night, reportedly arrested by  agents of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) in Bansang, Central River Region (CRR).

Reliable sources informed the Daily Observer that Hon Manneh and his accomplice  (Demba Baldeh) were suspected of trading in cannabis - an illicit drug - an offense to which tough sentences are attached.

According to our sources, the two men were detained at the Bansang Police Station, before being escorted to Banjul on Sunday morning.

However, sources could not confirm the quantity of cannabis that was found in the possession of the two men, but it was suspected that the two men had been engaged in this unlawful trade for quite a while.
