Reports reaching the Daily Observer have revealed that sixteen solar panels connected to the Barajally-Tenda borehole in the Central River Region have been carted away by unknown individuals.

The borehole, dug in 1983, is situated over 100 meters away from the village and the panels help to supply enough water for the villagers.

The village borehole has served two other villages in the Niani District since 1993.
Tabily Jawara, the Alkalo of Barajally village, expressed anger noting that this is the second time the solar panels have been stolen from the borehole.  

"The first one happened in 2001, when four panels were stolen. Later, we discovered two in Brikama-ba and the other two in Nouachott, Mauritania. The culprits were four, including one native of Barajally-Tenda who is now in Spain," he said.

He then called for assistance and urged his people to watch out for the thieves so as to recover the panels.
