One Ebrima Jallow, a Senegalese national, was on Monday, Sept 22, 2008, convicted for arson contrary to Section 305 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10 Volume lll of the laws of The Gambia by the CRR travelling magistrate, Amadou Baldeh.

In delivering his judgement, Magistrate Baldeh said the prosecution had called three witnesses and according to him their evidences were credible and corroborated.

Magistrate Baldeh said the court was of the view that the prosecution had done enough to prove the arson attack on one Koba Bah's house, a charge the accused was found guilty of. He asserted that the prosecution had provided essential elements (evidence of documentation).  

Magistrate Baldeh, relying on the testimonies of the three witnesses, said Ebrima Jallow and his host, Noperi Sowe, were at the scene at the time of the arson.  Magistrate Baldeh said since the accused had already spent 12 months on a suspended sentence, he should now pay a sum of D10,000 as compensation to the complainant, in the default to serve a one-year imprisonment, after which he will be deported back to his native Senegal. a
Magistrate Baldeh further ordered that Noperi Sowe, the co-accused person - who has abandoned his home , his wife and ten children - be sought by the police, to face the wrath of the law if found.
