New women sports committee unveiled in URR

Central River Region, yesterday, named a new  regional women's sports committee in Janjangbureh.  The launching ceremony, which was witnessed by the executive secretary of the National Sports Council was also attended by the the deputy governor of the region, Mr Lamin Darboe.

In his opening remarks, deputy governor Darboe, reckons that sports is now more than a recreation activity but an income generating activity.  He noted that sports, particularly football, could be an effective tool for peace building within our society and the nations.  He called on the new executive body to be committed to their duty  in order to achieve their objectives.

National Sports Council supremo, Mr Alieu Cham, urged the new committee to take up the challenges that lie ahead.  He asserted that his office is ready to help at any time the need arises.  

The area's regional sports chairman, Matarr Faal, spoke at length on the importance of women's participation in sports, noting that setting up the regional female committee will go a long way in improving sports in the region.  Commended the Gambian leader, Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, for his laudable assistance to all categories of the National teams, Mr Faal also thanked the National Sports Council for their support.
