Fake gold surety remanded

africa » gambia » brikama
Friday, September 26, 2008
Demba Sowe, a surety to one Alieu Sowe, was on Tuesday remanded at the State Central Prison. The remand order by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates Court, came following information reaching the court that Mr Sowe, one of the accused persons in the fake gold dust case, has jumped bail.

When the presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh, asked the troubled surety, Demba Sowe, about the whereabouts of the accused person, he said that he had searched for the accused but had not been able to see him.

Magistrate Jammeh told the surety "I am going to send you to remand, in order to fulfill the bail bond. And I will also impose a mandatory service on you."

He then ordered for Demba Sowe to be remanded at the State Central Prison and to appear before him on the next adjourned date, 29 September, for the surety, Mr Sowe, to tell the court why he did not fulfill the bail bond.
