the executive members of a voluntary association called Red Dolphin Life-Guard.
The association offers guarding and rescuing servicesto prevent disaster occurrences at the beach.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Bernard Mendy, auditor of the association, said
the sorrowful incident occurred at a restricted area, where there is no
life-guard. "Information got to us when the first dead body was found along
Boodus, the second and third between He recalled that from 2004 to 2010 a number of 18 young people lost their lives but that his association has made great efforts in preventing over 80 drowning cases and saved boats from capsizing, since their inception. Abdoulie Jallow, assistant auditor, called his fellow youths to come and join the association in order to protect the lives of young people. "We are really in for protection of the lives of people particularly the kids. We should not see the lives of our young people mess; as they are the future leaders. We also want swimming classes to be part of the school syllabi as the country is almost surrounded by water," he noted. Musa Bah, the treasurer of the association, highlighted financial as well as feeding problems as their constraints and therefore appealed to the general public, government and private sectorto come to their aid inthat regard and tohelp them with life-saving materials such as boats, life jackets, ambulance among others. Bah then advised youths to be careful, pointing out that it is not safe to swim in the absence of life guards. He called for all hands to be on deck to make their work easier.
