3-week-old child needs help

Africa » Gambia
Friday, July 09, 2010
A three-week-old boy is in urgent need of help for overseas treatment. The child is said to be suffering from hydro cephalus, a disease which results in a blockage in the ventricular system leading to the accumulation of fluid in the ventricle.

He (the child) is also suffering from lower abdominal abnormalities.Speaking to the Daily Observer, Doctor Lamin Makalo of the RVTH, explained that the disease is caused by the  accumulation of too much water in the head and that an amount of D60,000 is required for the patient to undergo surgery in Dakar. He revealed that, the child has already developed diarrhoea and  may further develop an excessive bladder abnormality if he does not receive urgent treatment.

Dr. Makalo stated that, when surgery is not done in  time the bones can mature and when this happens conducting surgery can be  very delicate and the patient's mental functioning abilitity can be deterred  leading to death if prompt medical attention is not given. He therefore appealed for support from donors to come to the parents' aid.Yahya Ndure and Fatou Ceesay, the child's parents, expressed great concern for their child's situation and  admitted that they did not have the required amount to treat their child. Any one willing to help can contact the family on: 7236593, 7274747, or on, 9900728.
