30 journalists to start basic journalism training todayMonday, April 27, 2009 The Gambia Communication Agency and Baroueli Enterprise on behalf of the African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (UNDP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will today kick-start a three-week intensive capacity building workshop for 30 journalist drawn from both the print and electronic media in The Gambia. Sceduled to take place at the Gambia Press UNion Secretariat along Garba Jahumpa Road in Bakau, the objective of the workshop is to deepen essential journalistic skills in order to biuild a vibrant, strong, professionalised and independent media in The Gambia. According to a press release from The Gambia Communication Agency and Baroueli Enterprise, the course modules includes the introduction to journalism, good journalism practices and methods, ethical standards, English for the journalist, essential laws for the journalist, human rights and gender sensitivity reporting and internet information research. The release further indicated that participants will also be required to do written assignments as well as project work. "For the project work, all 30 participants will be divided up into three groups and each groups wil be assigned a topic to work on. There is a prize for the best project work and a prize for the best participants.
