Africa » Gambia
Friday, July 16, 2010
33 students last Friday graduated at Kotukala Nursery School in Sukuta village, Kombo North, at a graduation ceremony held at the school ground.

Speaking at the occasion, Ousman Muhammed Cham said the importance of early childhood education cannot be over emphasised. He described early childhood education as a continuation of helping the wider society in moulding the minds of the young in the journey through their formative stage.

He revealed that a poor foundation for a child mostly makes the child to hate schooling with the believe that nothing good comes out of the whole system. "Growing with that kind of impression could be very damaging to the psychic of children," he added.According to him in community participation in early childhood education, people should recognise that every educational institution is a social institution with an inside and an outside.

For his part, Ismaila Cham, the headmaster of the school, said that they have a successful academic year due to the commitment and hard work of the parents, teachers and the students. He also disclosed that the ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has approved for the nursery to be extended to a primary school in the next academic year.

He finally thanked parents for the concern they have in their children's education.Banjul Jatta, the board chairman of the school said that the parents and students are the guiding force behind every success in the school. He concluded by thanking all the stakeholders who contributed to the success of the school today.Oustass Omar Bojang also spoke at the graduation whilst Absa Nyan delivered the vote of thanks.
