Alhaji Omar Khan, the governor of Upper River Region (URR) recently handed over four new tractors to the community of Gambisara in Jimara District of the Upper River Region..

The tractors where pledged to the community by the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh during his recent 'Dialogue with the people tour'. Handing over the tractors on behalf of the president, Governor Khan hailed the Gambian leader's personal intervention in agriculture, saying he is expediting the food self-sufficiency campaign. He reminded the people that the president never fails to fulfill his promises, and stressed that the tractors were given out purposely for farming.

He then advised them to institute proper care and maintenance of the tractors so that they can serve the community and the region in particular for a longer period of time. He further advised them to set up a committee that will be responsible for their maintenance as well as the day-to-day farming activities.The governor finally called on the beneficiaries to continue supporting the Gambian leader and his government for a more sustainable economic advancement.

For his part, Mbemba Dahaba, the regional agricultural director, URR, commended President Jammeh for such a laudable gesture. According to him, the tractors came at a moment when the region is advancing towards food self-sufficiency. He called on the people of the region particularly the beneficiaries to make best use of the tractors by cultivating more hectares of land for a more vibrant economy.

Ha ji Kulay Camara, the chief of Jimara District also thanked Presient Jammeh for the gesture, noting that the tractors will do a lot for the people of Gambisara. While commenting on President Jammeh’s love for the Gambians, Chief Camara noted that his [President Jammeh] ambition is to bring meaningful development to the doorstep of every citizen of this country. He then called on the people to support the APRC government.

Foday Yusupha Jawara, the APRC constituency chairman for Jimara, also commended President Jammeh for providing the tractors, and vowed that the people of the region will always rally behind him.Other speakers included Alhagie BaKebba Dukureh, Alkalo Gambiasara and Aja Nyabally Jallow, the lady councillor of Jimara, among others.
