The Gold Award Holders Association (GAHA), under the auspices of the President International Award, recently embarked on a tree planting and malaria sensitization campaign in Njawara, North Bank Region.

Speaking to our NBR correspondent, Baboucarr Mendy, the public relation officer of the association, said after receiving their gold award on the 7th of August at State House, his association deemed it necessary to embark on a tree planting exercise after the 22 July Revolution anniversary speech of the president, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh. "We take it as a duty to protect our beloved nation from desertification and we planted 600 trees at Njawara village," he said.

Speaking on the malaria sensitisation project, Baboucarr Kebbeh, a member of the association, said this was done to create awareness about malaria issues. He added that it also involved a drama presentation about the dangers of malaria, particularly with regards to children and pregnant women.

Kebbeh also disclosed that there are future plans the association and the Njawara Youth Development Committee will work on an animal husbandry project, which will kick-off in three months' time.
