68-year-old testifies in late Imam's murder case

Africa » Gambia
Monday, February 15, 2010
The criminal trial of six accused persons: Abdul Kadir Sillah, Banna Sillah, Bala Musa Konteh, Amadu Gaye, Kebba Sawaneh and Kadijatou Konteh, alleged to have murdered Samba Amadou Jallow, late Imam of Kuntaur Whaft Town, continued at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul, with receipt of evidence from Samako Jallow, a 68-year man and resident of Kuntaur in the CRR.

The prosecution witness said he knew the late Imam and recalled that two years ago he, the witness, informed the late Imam about an allegation made by the 6th accused, Kadijtou Konteh, that the late Imam was responsible for her pregnancy but the late Imam denied this allegation and instead referred him to the fifth accused, Kebba Sawaneh, who also denied the allegation.

The 68-year-old prosecution witness said he had advised the late Imam to be careful. "I then went and informed Bala Musa Konteh, father of the sixth accused, Kadijatou Konteh. I later told the father to warn his daughter to stop giving bad name to the Imam. He promised to put an end to it", the witness explained and ended his evidence and the matter was adjourned for continuation.
