The Banjul Magistrates Court last Wednesday convicted one Alieu Touray for stealing some electric materials worth D10,000 from Hassan Bazzi of Banjul.

The accused is said to have stolen fuses and other items from Mr Bazzi's electric meter but was later apprehended. In his judgment, Magistrate Mbaye said the tampering with of electric wires are becoming too rampant in the society.

He said some of these cables might have been directly connected to hospitals and that could be dangerous. The accused was subsequently sentenced to a jail term of 9 month with hard labour. The Inspector General of Police was represented by Corporal Bojang.
