Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, December 30, 2009
The Association of African Youths in Agriculture and Culture (AAYAC) recently donated wheelchairs, beds, mattresses and other health materials to Brikamaba Health Centre, in Lower Fulladu District, Central River Region (CRR) south.

In a similar programme, the association donated second hand clothes to eight communities in Lower and Upper Fulladu districts. The beneficiary communities include: Brikamaba, Dobong Kunda, Saruja, Pacharr, Brikamanding, Yero Berri Kunda, Jahally and Kerewan Dumbokoto. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the association’s president, Alhaji Lamin Nanko, said the aim of the association is to assist needy people and contribute to poverty reduction. He urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the donated items in order to improve their livelihood.

He disclosed that his association has over two hundred bales of clothes and bicycles ready for distribution. The officer in charge of the health centre, Sang Mendy, commended the association for their efforts in assisting the health sector. He further said the donation would go a long way in contributing to the improvement of the health sector and finally assured that the materials would be wisely utilized. On behalf of the communities, Mbemba Nanko thanked the donors for their humanitarian gesture.
